All music is spiritual because everything in the Universe is vibration. That means you and I are also a musical vibration.
Changing Spiritual Vibration
Physics helps us understand how everything is energy. So, everything is in our Universe is a unique frequency. Music has some interesting properties. Perhaps this is because we are also vibration and frequency. We have some ways of controlling this through the practice of what we call spiritual exploration. Some of these practices are excellent for raising your vibrational frequency.
“The smallest component of the human molecule is a vibration – the equivalent to a musical note. Taking the time to learn more self-awareness at this level creates life experiences beyond that of all the greatest symphonies ever heard” ― Gary Hopkins
Music is a Time Machine
When we hear music, we listen, not only with our ears but also with our Essence, or Soul, our Being. If we open up and investigate what’s going on with the music that resonates with us, we can learn a lot about ourselves.
Music is a handy mnemonic device. Music connects with us and to our consciousness in unique ways. It resonates with memories of significant times, places, people, and the emotions we associate with them. Music enables us to re-live moments or cultivate emotional reactions real to our psychology and physiology. In other words, music is like a time machine.
Music is a mechanism to connect with and engage the mind’s more instinctive aspects. When we engage the mind through music, we can transcend the Ego. Specific sounds can resonate with the energy centers of the body called chakras. Different music affects different chakras and other energies. Many indigenous cultures use instruments, drums, singing bowls, and rattles to explore the relationship between vibration and consciousness.
Music is an Emotional Link
As mentioned above, music is a powerful linking device. Music has a vibrational quality that links directly to our emotional center. That’s one reason it is such a force in our culture. Every culture uses music to express its mission. National anthems are cultural statements. They are musical tools that reinforce the mission statement of the entity.
You can use music to reinforce your own mission statement, set or change your mood. Music is a spiritual vibration, and each genre, tempo, and volume affect our minds, body, and soul.
“I now realize that when you truly accept bass as (essentially) an emanation of God (at gut level), as the ‘ground’ of existence, let alone music, you make a friend of impermanence, everything vibrates, moves is in a state of flux, therefore the fear of losing what you have, or of not getting what (you think) you want, diminishes. You will truly ride the rhythm. You will reside in the resonance of Om. To you, the open ‘E’ string becomes spiritually vehicular. You can ride the sonic boom to heaven.” ― Jah Wobble, Memoirs of a Geezer: Music, Mayhem, Life
Music Links to the Planet
We know the Earth has a vibrational signature. Music helps us realize our connection to the planet. You probably have felt a connection to certain places. Or, you may have felt certain places seem to emit either positive or negative energy.
“It does not matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered or how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that matters,” ― Amit Ray, Meditation: Insights and Inspirations
Music as a tool for Spiritual Exploration
As part of your spiritual journey, we highly recommend investigating the music significant to you. Some music connects with us because of the lyrics, some because of the music’s melody, rhythms, or flavor. Some music connects with us because it is associated emotionally with people, places, things, ideas, desires, etc. It connects with our essence, our spirit. So, music truly is spiritual vibration.
Here is a simple but effective way to investigate your connection to music. You will need your journal with several blank pages. Some people prefer a larger art sketchbook or even easel paper. Once you have your paper or easel ready, start your favorite music, and write or doodle.
Some people don’t even watch the page while they are writing. Let your hand write what you feel, words, pictures, etc. Once you begin to access this creative and intuitive part of the mind, it is very freeing. Some refer to this as Automatic Writing.
All music is spiritual, even the music that doesn’t resonate with you. Even the music you don’t like has a purpose. It might be “off-key” or in a genre or style that you don’t like, but it has a purpose. The more you explore different kinds of music, the more you find you want. Over time, your taste in music may also change. These are clues to what’s going on inside. It is definitely worth investigating other types of music, and the Automatic Writing practice noted above.
You may not have thought about yourself as spiritual vibration, but that’s exactly what we are. May your song be sweet to those in your sphere of influence.
